18-Nov-2014 Here's my metal spinning setup in my metal lathe for the piston covers: Steel mandrel chucked up. I would recommend a mandrel which is not chucked so closely to the jaws like mine - it puts your fingers and the tool too close to the chuck jaws. Aluminum disk with wax lubricant smeared on it, clamping block held in tailstock. Improvised tool rest clamped to the cross-compound. Lubricant wax (toilet bowl wax ring seal worked the best). Forming tool stuck into a scrap piece of three foot long stairwell railing.
